Introduction to MS Adhesive

一. Definition of MS Adhesive

    MS adhesive, also known as Modified Silane Polyether Adhesive, is primarily based on MS Polymer. The main chain of MS polymer consists of flexible polyoxyalkylene segments, and it has side chains terminated with silane groups, which act as functional end groups. The cross-linking density is relatively low. MS adhesive is formulated as either a one-component or two-component elastic sealant, which includes fillers, plasticizers, and other functional additives. The curing process mainly involves the hydrolysis of silanes in the presence of moisture from the air, leading to alcohol liberation and subsequent condensation. It belongs to the category of moisture-cured adhesives.

The molecular structure of MS polymer imparts several characteristics to MS adhesive, including low modulus, stress relaxation capability, high elasticity recovery rate, and adaptability to joint expansion, contraction, shear deformation, and environmental factors such as thermal expansion and contraction, wind loads, seismic effects, and differential settling. Additionally, the polymer has low viscosity, providing excellent low-temperature workability and extrudability, superior curing performance, and stable storage stability. MS adhesive represents the next generation of construction sealants following polysulfide, silicone, and polyurethane sealants.

二. Applications of MS Adhesive

MS adhesive is primarily used in the fields of building construction, decoration, bonding, sealing, waterproofing, reinforcement, and joint filling. In recent years, as people have become more aware of the advantages of MS adhesive, its applications have expanded into industrial sectors such as refrigerated trucks, containers, elevators, and more.

三. Advantages of MS Adhesive

1. Outstanding Environmental Performance: MS adhesive production involves no addition of solvents, and it does not release  

 harmful substances such as formaldehyde, toluene, xylene, etc., which are detrimental to human health. MS adhesive has the lowest VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content, making it an environmentally friendly and green choice.

2. Wider Bonding Range and Stronger Adhesive Strength: MS adhesive is not only suitable for the majority of building materials but also exhibits excellent bonding strength with engineering plastics such as acrylic, ABS, and PMMA, as well as porous materials like concrete. It offers a broader and more versatile range of applications compared to silicone adhesives.

3. Prevents Surface and Joint Pollution: MS adhesive does not release oily molecules that can contaminate building surfaces and joints. This helps maintain the aesthetic appearance of buildings over the long term. In contrast, silicone adhesives may release small molecules that, when combined with rainwater and dust, can create stubborn stains on the building's exterior that are difficult to remove.

4. Compatibility with Most Paints and Coatings: MS adhesive is compatible with the majority of paints and coatings, allowing the adhesive surface to be colored and decorated. Silicone adhesives, on the other hand, may cause coatings to lose adhesion due to surface tension contraction.

5. Balanced Overall Performance: MS adhesive exhibits good overall performance balance, making it a reliable choice for various applications.
